Hawks Swimmers of the Week

A.J. Bang

AJ Bang, 16 has been the embodiment of the Hawks’ spirit. He cheers our younger swimmers on, helps them in and out of the pool, takes time to teach them dives, give them pointers, and even race next to them to “pace” them during a recent time-trial event. At our last meet, when we needed extra points, AJ was the first to agree to pulling a boys 18 and under relay team together with Kevin McColgan, 8, Alex Rubin 11, Patrick Holloran 15 and himself. While they didn’t win, it was one of the best relays I’ve ever witnessed because it was all heart and soul being poured into the water. They did come in second place and were able to provide the team with six, much needed points. Another example of AJ’s selflessness was when he agreed to enter distance events on the Friday night session of our home meet in Ravena. He did this to provide his mother with an excuse to Shepard many of our swimmers up to the meet in the “Bang Bus.” Not only does AJ serve as a big brother and mentor to our younger swimmers, but he has also been racing his heart out at meets. This past Saturday he achieved his best time in the 100 Back, taking almost three seconds off his previous time. This is no small feat considering that AJ split his heel open at our Ravena meet while doing a back-flip turn. He is a joy t have on the team, an inspiration and a fantastic swimmer. We’re proud of you AJ and know if you set your mind to it, you can achieve all of your goals.

Hudson Carroll

Hudson Carroll, 11 has been a wonderful addition to the Hawks Team. He is always upbeat, positive and willing to work hard to achieve his goals. Most recently, Hudson qualified in the 50 backstroke and the 200 backstroke for the Gold’s Championships. Beyond the backstroke, Hudson is working hard and has had a great string of meets where he has lowered his times in almost all of his events. He enjoys leading the lane off the clock and rather than take a “break” during practice he asks to be timed for sprints. Hudson is a cheerful, supportive team member who has a tendency to forget the one thing all swimmers need—a bathing suit! We greatly enjoy having Hudson on our team and are very proud of his accomplishments. We know that if he keeps working and training hard he will continue to have success both in and outside of the water. Go for the gold Hudson!
